WEBSITE: Culturally Sensitive Care
Many Brussels seniors do not find their way to the right care. They need a warm network of formal and informal care. They should be surrounded by citizens and organizations that know their way around, close to them. The potential of people from immigrant backgrounds and informal care experience is too often overlooked in this regard. They can be the bridge between seniors and the care and welfare system for more culturally sensitive and accessible care.
In October 2018, EVA bxl, in collaboration with training and care partners, is launching an action research project to develop a neighborhood-oriented care model in two super-diverse Brussels neighborhoods, namely Cureghem and the Brabant neighborhood. Job-seeking caregivers with care experience follow a valorizing training path. They get to work with care partners in the two neighborhoods and explore what meaningful role they can play as connectors during their search for vulnerable elderly people. In parallel, care professionals and volunteers from the Cureghem and Brabant neighborhoods will attend workshops on culturally sensitive and neighborhood-oriented care. Together we experiment per neighborhood how a neighborhood-oriented care model can take shape.
EVA bxl launches a new interactive website that tells the story of the project in three different perspectives. Curious? Click HERE and discover our experiences and lessons learned through the website.
