112 Brussels organizations call for urgent support, including EVA bxl: “Without indexing, our work is in jeopardy”
As one of the 112 Dutch-speaking organizations in Brussels, EVA bxl is raising the alarm. Together with our colleague organizations and on the initiative of the Knowledge Center Welfare, Housing and Care, we ask the FCC College for an urgent perspective and a solution for the non-indexed subsidies that put our functioning under increasing pressure. Other signatories include D’Broej, Sociare, Fébio, Fix, Big Island, JES,…
Back in October 2025, we sent a first letter to the FCC College.
Only College President Elke Van den Brandt then received a delegation of the organizations and sent a written response. In it, she informed us that, in her opinion, indexing in 2026 is not possible. For us and many other organizations, this remains a major concern as it affects the future of our work.
Why this affects us
At EVA bxl we see every day what is needed in a metropolitan context: support, guidance, meeting, connection. That work requires stable teams and sufficient resources.
But while our salaries must be legally indexed, subsidies lag behind.
That puts organizations – including us – before difficult choices: fewer people to employ, less room for innovation, less time for the Brusselers with whom we develop new initiatives.
The temporary 3% compensation, which helped previous years avoid the worst, fell away in 2025. That indexing would fall away again in 2026 for many organizations is unacceptable and no longer sustainable.
A strong midfield requires stability
We believe, together with the other organizations, that Brussels needs a strong and resilient civil society. Just now, in times of increasing challenges, we need to build a resilient and active society that supports, strengthens and connects people. Stable civil society is important to achieve this.
Therefore, we ask that indexing be permanently included in the new FCC governance agreement.
We remain willing to consult
The joint letter, signed by EVA bxl and 111 other organizations, is an invitation to seek solutions together.
We hope the full college will take our signal to heart.
At EVA bxl, we continue to believe wholeheartedly in a warm, caring and connected Brussels – and we want to continue to include our work in it, with the right support.
