Mentors Wanted for (Working) Students in “Together for a Diploma”
Become a mentor: make a difference, grow together
Sometimes, just one conversation can make all the difference. One person who listens, offers guidance, and builds trust. As a mentor, you can be that person.
Who is it for: Brussels residents who are balancing higher education with work, family, and other responsibilities—and who want a better future for themselves and their families.
At “Together for a Diploma,” we believe that everyone has talents that can flourish when opportunities, support, and connection come together. That’s why we bring students and mentors together in a powerful partnership where both learn, grow, and inspire one another.
More Than Just Studying
As a mentor, you help a student understand courses, assignments, and study methods. You share knowledge, experiences, and practical tips. But the impact goes far beyond academic guidance.
By working together regularly, you build a bond of trust. You get to know each other’s worlds, share experiences, and discover new perspectives. What begins as support for an educational program often grows into an enriching human connection.
Many mentors say afterward that they learned at least as much as the student they mentored.
A commitment that helps you grow, too
Being a mentor doesn’t mean you have to know everything. You’re never on your own.
Through training sessions, peer review sessions, and networking events, you’ll have the opportunity to further develop yourself as a coach and mentor. You’ll learn how to support students, how to strengthen their language skills, and how to create a learning environment where people feel safe to ask questions and take on challenges.
In that supportive environment, everyone can learn, try new things, and grow.
Working Together to Build Equal Opportunities
At “Together for a Diploma,” equality is central. We believe that everyone belongs and can make a valuable contribution.
By becoming a mentor, you’re not just helping one student succeed. You’re also contributing to a society where opportunities are distributed more fairly and where people support one another. You’ll discover how social inequalities arise, learn to view the world around you critically, and see how your involvement can make a positive impact.
Small actions can have surprisingly big consequences.
Mutual Learning
A mentoring relationship works both ways. Students bring their own experiences, insights, and talents to the table. The diversity of backgrounds and stories broadens your perspective and enriches your own thinking.
It is precisely that reciprocity that makes mentoring so special. You offer support, but at the same time, you gain new insights, inspiration, and a sense of connection.
Who can become a mentor?
You don’t have to be a teacher or an expert. What really matters is commitment, curiosity, and a willingness to invest time in a student.
Are you a good listener? Do you want to encourage someone to develop their talents? Do you believe in the power of giving people opportunities?
Then you already have the most important qualities of a mentor.
Your impact starts today
A student (who works) who gains more confidence. An exam that suddenly becomes achievable. A new perspective on society. A meaningful encounter that enriches both lives.
Becoming a mentor isn’t a one-way street. It’s about learning together, growing together, and working together to build a warmer and more inclusive society.
Do you want to help make a difference? Become a mentor and discover just how much of an impact a single act of engagement can have.
