The Baobab

We call a cat a cat: education needs a dynamic approach tailored to Brussels children with diverse backgrounds and home situations. But Brussels residents today still find too little way to the training – and thus the profession – of teacher.

Many of them have plenty of talent and enthusiasm, but face various obstacles along the traditional path. Through the De Baobab project, they get the chance to start working right away as student teachers—with an experienced teacher serving as their mentor. They receive four years of intensive coaching, after which they earn a full-fledged diploma in early childhood education.

The Baobab project strengthens the relationship between schools, children, parents, and the community by systematically integrating role models into Dutch-language preschool education in Brussels. Baobab is now expanding into elementary school as well!
